Adoption Information

Come find your furry friend at the Lincoln County Animal Shelter!  The adoption fee is $55-$250 for dogs depending on age, health, and behavior.  There is a name-your-own adoption fee for cats (minimum of $10).

All adoptions include initial vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, one-year license, collar, identification tag, a certificate for a free examination with a local veterinarian, free bag of food and 10% off your first purchase at a local pet supply store, and two free behavior consultations.

The shelter's Seniors for Seniors program waives the adoption fee for senior animals to qualified senior citizens, 55 years of age or older. The only fee required is $5 for a one-year license.

We understand that adopting a pet is a big decision with many factors to consider.  We offer full refunds for animals returned within one week of adoption in order to give everyone in your family an opportunity to see if it is a perfect fit. We also offer full refunds if your free veterinary visit reveals medical issues you are not able or willing to take on.  (Please not that it takes a few weeks to process a refund.)

To meet an animal at our shelter, please visit during regular business hours (Tuesday-Saturday from 12-5). You may call to place an animal on hold for up to 24 hours. Please bring all members of your family (including dogs if you are adopting another dog). We do ask for permission from your landlord, if you rent, and that your dogs be licensed

Please note that the shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we make our best guess based on appearance. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label.

There are a number of internet resources to help guide your decision to adopt, and our Animal Care Specialists are happy to assist you. You may also search for pets on Adoptapet.com, Petfinder.com and Petango.com.
