On June 3, 2012 at approximately 5:30pm, Lincoln County area law enforcement was made aware of a stolen 2008 Mercury Mountaineer possibly traveling to Newport from the Florence, OR area. According to the reporting party, the driver was acting delusional prior to leaving in the vehicle from a Florence area residence. A concerned citizen reported seeing the vehicle driving erratically in the Seabrook Lane area of Waldport. Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Derek Etheridge located the vehicle as it traveled northbound from the Waldport area at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Tawn Mar Drive in Seal Rock.
An Oregon State Police Trooper arrived to assist Eeputy Etheridge at the stop location. After an investigation, Deputy Etheridge took William Edward Wilson III, a 36 year-old Newport resident, into custody for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Wilson III was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was lodged on the charge, which carried a $50,000 bail.
