Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies successfully completed a safety belt enforcement campaign aimed primarily at increasing safety belt and correct child safety seat use. The blitz took place in February of this year. The local enforcement blitz was part of an effort funded by The Oregon Department of Transportation and involved several other law enforcement agencies.
Local roadway surveys showed safety belt compliance at 96% prior to the blitz and 98% after the blitz ended. During the enforcement period the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office issued 18 citations; 4 of which were relating to safety belt issues. Deputies made 107 warning contacts during the blitz.
Additional safety belt enforcement blitzes are scheduled for May and August of 2011.
