Local Men Receive Statewide Award

On June 30, 2010, John Profitt and Fred Johnson were presented with Life Saving Awards by Sheriff Dennis Dotson for their efforts on November 18, 2009. Profitt and Johnson rescued three small children and their mother from their submerged car in the cold water of Widow Creek in the Rose Lodge area of Lincoln County.

On December 8, 2010, the Oregon Sheriff’s Association presented Mr. Profitt and Mr. Johnson with Oregon Sheriff’s highest honor, the Award of Valor. The awards were presented to the two men in front of an audience of nearly 300 people during the Oregon Sheriff’s Annual Awards Banquet in Bend , Oregon.

“We are honored to recognize these two men for their courageous efforts that November afternoon,” stated Sheriff Dotson. “Their modesty concerning their actions just makes honoring them that much more meaningful.”
