Summary:

On September 7, 2010 at about 8:12pm, Newport Police Department was dispatched to a report of a hit and run traffic crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of San-Bay-O Circle and Highway 101 in Newport, Oregon. A witness reported the vehicle left the scene northbound and provided a description of the suspect's vehicle. Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Eric Gulbranson located the vehicle in the area of mile post 127 in Depoe Bay. Deputy Gulbranson attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the suspect failed to stop. After a brief pursuit the driver was taken into custody without further incident. The Oregon State Police responded to the scene to assist.

The suspect was identified as Rodney Jefferson Baker, age 53 of Depoe Bay. It was also discovered that Baker's driver license was criminally suspended. Baker was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail for Attempt to Elude (Felony) and Driving While Suspended (Misdemeanor). His bail was set at $65,000.
