Summary:
On July 17, 2010 at about 7:59pm, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a residence in the 800 Block of S-Low Road in Seal Rock, Oregon on a report of multiple subjects sustaining injuries from an explosion. Upon arrival, deputies learned 38 year old Eric Jason Rose of Keizer, Oregon had been struck by a piece of fragmented metal and was unconscious at the scene. Members of the Seal Rock and Central Oregon Coast Fire and Rescue Departments attempted CPR, however, they were unable to revive him and Rose was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other adult males received injuries resulting from the explosion as well. One of the subjects was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport for treatment.
Investigation revealed the subjects involved were loading a black powder cannon device belonging to the property owner when the device exploded. Several pieces of fragmented metal were projected through the air, striking four of the five involved subjects.
Deputies contacted the Lincoln County District Attorney's Office regarding the investigation as well as the Lincoln County Medical Examiner. The cause of death is under investigation by the Lincoln County Medical Examiner, in conjunction with the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office.
Rose's next of kin has been notified of the death.
