Summary:
On May 17, 2010 the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Laramie County Sheriff's Office in Wyoming. They were requesting assistance in locating and apprehending a 17 year old male juvenile who had a felony warrant in their jurisdiction for failing to appear in court.
There was limited information regarding the juvenile's whereabouts, other than he was believed to be in the Yachats area, possibly staying with a family member. A check of various records including those from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) did not turn up any further information.
Dispatchers at the Lincoln County Communications (LinCom) center provided some excellent investigative assistance to the Sheriff's Office including an extensive database and internet search that located key information leading to the location of the suspect. Photographs of a residence the juvenile was possibly at in the Yachats area were located. At about 11:38 a.m. Deputy Abby Dorsey located the juvenile at the residence observed in the photos and he was taken into custody without incident. The juvenile was transported to the Lincoln County Juvenile Department where he was lodged on a Fugitive Complaint.
Dispatch supervisor Tami Atkinson stated, "It was fortunate that activity in the dispatch center was rather slow at the time and allowed dispatcher Becky Robeson and I to take the time to do this extra research. Although our staffing levels don't always allow us to provide this level of assistance, it was very rewarding and we were pleased that we were of assistance."
