Sheriff Hires New Animal Shelter Manager

A new manager for the Lincoln County Animal Shelter was recently hired by Sheriff Dennis Dotson. Laura Ireland-Moore of Newport assumed her new role on Monday April 5. Mrs. Moore was selected by an interview committee consisting of Kathe Stander from the Central Coast Humane Society, Erica Fruh from the Friends of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, the Lincoln County Personnel Director Gina Tapp, Sheriff’s Office members Lt. Dave Carey, Sgt. Tom Graham, and Sgt. Barbara Perry, who served as the interim shelter director.

After a number of interviews were conducted, the names of two candidates were forwarded to Sheriff Dotson and he made the final selection. The animal shelter is a division of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the shelter manager reports to the Sheriff.

“We are very excited in having Laura join our leadership team at the Sheriff’s Office,” stated Dotson. “Her knowledge and experience in animal issues will introduce a new and welcomed perspective to shelter operations and its future,” commented Dotson.

Sergeant Barbara Perry was temporarily reassigned from the jail to the shelter last fall. A number of new programs were introduced during Sgt. Perry’s shelter assignment in addition to her expanding a number of programs previously implemented.

“We’re very pleased with the progress and success the shelter has experienced over the past months,” stated Sheriff Dotson. “Sgt. Perry has performed commendably, but we’re also excited to have her return to her responsibilities at the jail.” “She has been missed,” added Dotson. Sgt. Perry will work with Moore for at least a few weeks to assist in her training.
