On 03-27-10, Deputies of the Lincoln County Sheriff's office and a Trooper from the Oregon State Police investigated the report of a fight in the parking lot of the Depoe Bay Shell Station. Prior to the arrival of law enforcement, some of the involved persons had left the scene in a vehicle driving south on highway 101. That vehicle was stopped on the highway near Newport by Sheriff's Deputies HUGHES and COX. OSP TRP KOWING contacted the other involved persons at the Shell station. The investigation revealed that the driver of the stopped vehicle, Mark L DADE, 41 of Springfield, OR; allegedly assaulted the owner of the Shell station and shoved him to the ground during a verbal argument between the two. As DADE was leaving the scene, he allegedly drove rapidly in reverse, striking the foot of a woman who was standing by his vehicle. Both the owner of the Shell station and the woman reported being injured, but refused medical treatment at the scene. DADE was arrested and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Assault IV, Harassment, and Reckless Endangering, and is being held on $45,000 bail.
