On February 4, 2010, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies received an anonymous tip that several horses were not being fed and appeared malnourished at 21809 Siletz Highway, Siletz. Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies David Boys and John Denny responded to the property and contacted 57 year old Curtis J. Myhre of Siletz, Oregon. The deputies located three horses belonging to Myhre on the property that were in an emaciated condition.
On February 10, at 3:00 PM, Sheriff's Deputies, with assistance from Lincoln County Animal Services, executed a search warrant on the property at 21809 Siletz Highway and seized all three horses. On February 25, at 2:30 PM, Deputy Boys contacted Myhre and issued him a citation for Animal Neglect II. The horses are currently under the care of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Posse and their condition is improving.
The Sheriff's Office receives numerous complaints of livestock and pets not receiving proper care, either due to poor feed or living conditions. In some cases, these instances are criminal in nature. Livestock and pet owners experiencing difficulty in caring for their animals are encouraged to contact the Lincoln County Animal Shelter so they may be directed to charitable organizations that can provide assistance.
