Siletz School Presentation

On February 9, 2010, Deputy Steve Frey and inmate Brandon Boyanovsky traveled from the Lincoln County Jail to the Siletz Valley School to present a “Day in the Life” program.

This program started three years ago as a way to promote awareness, the benefits of positive decision making and the consequences of poor choices.

The class was conducted in an open forum style environment to promote questions and give the opportunity for students to observe, listen and learn. The open forum provided a positive atmosphere for both the inmate and the students to communicate and share some of their experiences.

Deputy Frey and inmate Boyanovsky contacted approximately 40 students, as well as a handful of Siletz Valley High School teachers interested in the program. Computer Lab teacher Lori Syms coordinated the effort with Deputy Frey to bring the “Day in the Life” program to Siletz.

The topics discussed were primarily focused on drug awareness, the judicial system and the negative physical, social and emotional impact of drug abuse and addiction. Briefly touched upon were the subjects of gang affiliation and the impacts of both positive and negative PEER pressure.

According to Deputy Frey the program was very well received and the student’s participation in the classroom was outstanding.

Anyone interested in a presentation at their school, or even a club meeting, can contact Deputy Steve Frey at Sfrey@co.lincoln.or.us or Corporal Timothy Evertt at Tevertt@co.lincoln.or.us or by calling (541) 265-4277.
