On 10-30-09, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Jeff HUGHES responded to a residence on NE Port Dr in Neotsu for a reported burglary call. A red Pontiac Firebird was parked in the driveway and one of the windows in the house had been broken out. The Firebird was registered to John LAWRENCE, age 20 of McMinnville. DEP HUGHES and officers from the Lincoln City Police Department observed evidence that someone had been inside the vacant home, but nothing was taken. Deputy Hughes saw a large amount of suspected psilocybin mushrooms inside the Firebird through the vehicle windows. The vehicle was towed to the Sheriff's Office impound lot where it will be stored pending application of a search warrant. While the scene was processed for evidence, LAWRENCE walked out of the wooded area nearby. Lawrence was arrested for a probation violation. Accompanying Lawrence was another male, Samuel BALDA, age 20 of Portland. The investigating revealed that Balda was responsible for breaking into the residence. Balda was arrested for Criminal Trespass I and Criminal Mischief II. An investigation into the manufacture and possession of psilocybin mushrooms is still ongoing.
