Sheriff's Office Hosts Community Meeting
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office hosted its 13th community meeting Thursday October 15. The meeting was held at the Toledo City Hall starting at 6:30 p.m. lasting for more than 1-1/2 hours. There was a light turnout from citizens, but the small group asked questions and made other comments.
The light turn-out didn’t appear to dampen the enthusiasm of Sheriff Dennis Dotson and his leadership team. Lieutenants Jamie Russell and Dave Carey were on hand to update citizens on jail and enforcement programs and projects. Sergeant Barbara Perry gave a progress report on the Animal Shelter and recent increase in utilization of inmate labor at the shelter. Sergeant Perry has been reassigned as the interim animal shelter manager. Chief Civil Deputy Christie Meister spoke about her successful efforts in improving some laws that benefit citizens. Lieutenant Curtis Landers was credited in having secured nearly $2 million in federal grants to fund Sheriff’s Office and public safety projects in Lincoln County over the past several years.
Guests were treated to a new community video highlighting Sheriff’s Office services provided to Lincoln County citizens and visitors. The 13 minute video is available for viewing on the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office website at www.lincolncountysheriff.net There is also a new recruiting video available for viewing.
Sheriff Dotson highlighted the progress achieved and credited the Sheriff’s Office membership for the many accomplishments. The four jail restructurings implemented since 2005 were outlined and the reduction in annual operating costs for the jail while increasing the inmate population was also highlighted.
Sheriff Dotson also credited partners for the success of his office including the many volunteers who donate thousands of hours on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office.
The next community meeting will be held in April 2010 at a location to be determined. Citizens are encouraged to attend these community meetings to hear about the results of Sheriff’s Office efforts, but also to take advantage of the opportunity to speak directly to Sheriff Dotson and his leadership team about public safety issues.
