On July 31, 2009 at about 10:15pm, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Sorby arrested James D Zeober, 60, of Newport, for DUII. Deputy Sorby observed Zeober traveling on NW 3rd Street near the intersection of NW Brook in Newport on a motorized bicycle. Zeober had attached a 49cc gas motor to his bicycle and was traveling down the street at a high rate of speed. When Deputy Sorby saw Zeober he did not have any lights or reflectors on his bike. Deputy Sorby contacted Zeober and observed signs of impairment. Zeober consented to field sobriety tests and failed.
Zeober was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he registered a .07% BAC. While at the jail Zeober was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. A Drug Recognition Expert was called to conduct an evaluation. After the evaluation was conducted Zeober was found to be under the influence of controlled substances in addition to the alcohol. Zeober was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on DUII. Zeober’s bail was set at $15,000.00 and he was cited for possession of marijuana.
