On July 25, 2009 at about 12:12 am, Deputy David Hawley with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the 1300 block of N Coast Highway in Newport. Deputy Hawley stopped the vehicle for driving without head lights. Deputy Hawley contacted the driver later known as, Christopher Willis, 24 years of age, from Newport. After noticing several signs of impairment, Deputy Hawley performed standardized field sobriety tests on Willis and he failed each of them.
Deputy Hawley placed Willis under arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. Willis was transported to the Lincoln County Jail were he submitted to a breath test which resulted in a .18% blood alcohol concentration. Willis was booked and lodged at the jail and held on a $15,000 bail.
