Summary:
On June 21st at 9:48 pm, a deputy with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office was flagged down by a citizen who reported that a baby had just been found in the road in the area of Hwy 34 and John St in Waldport.
An investigation revealed that Alfredo Medina-Ortiz, 30, of Waldport, had drank himself to the point of losing consciousness while caring for his 1 year old son and 8 year old daughter at an outdoor concert at the intersection of Spring St and John St. Witnesses reported seeing Medina-Ortiz drinking heavily while at the location.
Medina-Ortiz’s daughter had called her grandfather to come pick her up after she was unable to find her father or brother. While driving to the location, the grandfather observed his one year old grandson, unattended, on the sidewalk on the corner of Hwy 34 and John St. The baby had not been in the road as initially reported.
Medina-Ortiz was found, unconscious, in a nearby field. After being evaluated by paramedics he was arrested for two counts of CHILD NEGLECT II and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail with a total bail of $30,000.
The two children were unharmed and were released to their grandparents.
