Lincoln County |
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will be working to enforce traffic occupant protection and other traffic related laws during the Three Flags safety belt enforcement blitz scheduled May 18th to May 31st. The enforcement blitz is funded by the Oregon Department of Transportation and is a coordinated effort involving agencies throughout Oregon and Washington. The Three Flags program provides funding for enhanced traffic enforcement during the scheduled blitz.
The May blitz will focus on wearing and the proper use of safety belts and child safety seats. There will also be a focus on a new law that prohibits minors riding in the back of pickup beds. Unbelted or improperly belted occupants are five times more likely to be thrown from the vehicle in a crash than one who is belted. Odds of surviving ejection from a motor vehicle are estimated at one in four. This is why Oregon law also prohibits minors from riding in the open bed of a pickup.
