Summary:
On March 26, 2009, at 9:20 AM, persons visiting the Moolack Beach viewing area/parking lot called 911 and reported their vehicle had just been broken into and valuables inside were taken. The victims reported a silver Kia Optima was just seen speeding away and gave dispatch the license plate. Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Colon Teem responded to the park and contacted the victims.
Minutes later, Newport Police Officer Barry Macy saw a vehicle matching the suspect's vehicle description going south bound on Highway 101 near Agate Beach. Officer Macy made a traffic stop and contacted two male occupants of the vehicle, identified as Scott Leander King, 33 years old from Siletz, and Richard Wayne Martin, 43 years old from Otis. An investigation was conducted and both male subjects were placed under arrest. King was transported to the Lincoln County Jail and charged with Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Theft II, Criminal Mischief II and Probation Violation, with no bail. Martin was transported to the Lincoln County Jail and charged with Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Theft II and Criminal Mischief II, his bail was set at $45,000.
Park visitors are reminded that valuables are not secure in their vehicles and are asked to take them with them.
