Summary:
On March 24, 2009 at approximatley 12:41 AM, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Derek Etheridge initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Depoe Bay area for a minor traffic violation. The vehicle continued for a short distance before stopping in the parking lot of the Worldmark Resort. When the vehicle stopped, all the occupants fled the vehicle on foot. Deputy Etheridge engaged in a foot pursuit and apprehended the driver, a 17 year-old male from the Toledo area.
A subsequent investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the evening. With the assistance of other Lincoln County Deputies and an Oregon State Police Trooper, the other two occupants were apprehended and issued citations for Minor in Possession of Alcohol by Consumption.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and lodged at the Juvenile Detention center in Newport. The driver was charged with Unathorized Use of a Vehicle, Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Minor in Possession of Alcohol, Minor in Possession of Tobacco, and other traffic violations.
