Incident: Taft High School Presentation
Date Occurred: March 10, 2009
Time Occurred:
Location: Taft High School

Summary:

On March 10th, 2009, members of the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office/ Jail Division, in conjunction with the Lincoln County School Board and Taft High School, joined together to bring some of the students at Taft High School a candid, real life presentation of the benefits and consequences of choices and decision making.

This program, in it’s second year running, is focused primarily on the negative effects of drug use, addiction, dependency and the negative emotional and social impact of drug and alcohol abuse. Other topics covered were the judicial system and the positive and negative effects of PEER pressure.

Mr. Greg Taylor, an inmate at the Lincoln County Jail, volunteered his time for this open forum style presentation of “A Day in the Life”. The Deputies and inmate remained at Taft High School making presentations to approximately 200 science class students ranging from 8th to 10th grade over the time span of 6 hours. The classroom environment provided a positive atmosphere for both the inmate and the students to communicate and share some of their experiences and any negative impact any past association with drugs or alcohol has had on his/her life.

The ideation behind this program is an attempt from the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office and the Lincoln County School Board to contact as many young people within our community as possible to provide them some of the tools necessary to lead safe and productive lives.

Schools interested in a presentation can contact deputy Steve Frey at the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office/ jail Division at (541) 265-4277 or E-mail at : Sfrey@co.lincoln.or.us.
