Date Occurred: March 11, 2009
Time Occurred: Approximately 4:30 pm
Location: Newport, Oregon

Summary:

On March 11, 2009, Michele Eugenia Johnson, age 36 of Toledo, entered a plea of guilty to Identity Theft involving the family of Maryjane Longo. MaryJane Longo and her three young children were murdered in Lincoln County in Decemeber 2001 by husband and father Christian Longo. During the 2002/2003 murder trial of Christian Longo, Michele Johnson served as a volunteer for the Lincoln County Victim's Department. During her service, Johnson assisted the family of MaryJane Longo and had access to their personal information. In November 2008, family members discovered names and social security numbers had been used in Toledo, Lincoln County, Oregon to purchase Qwest phone service in 2003 and Direct TV in 2007. An investigation by Lincoln County Sheriff's Office determined Michele Johnson had used the identity of MaryJane Longo's sisters Penny Dupuie and Cathy Baker. Due to the statute of limitations on 2003 theft, no charges were filed in that matter. Michele Johnson was sentenced to 18 months probation, 10 days in the Lincoln County Jail and $650.00 in restitution to Direct TV. The Honorable Judge Thomas Branford expressed his sadness for Michel Johnson's "Betrayal of trust " to family of MaryJane, Zachery, Sadie and Madison Longo.
