Summary:
On March 5, 2009, dispatch received a 911 call from a female in another part of the state, who said her sister in Lincoln County had just called her saying she was being assaulted by her husband. Deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the victims address in South Beach, while Newport police searched for the suspect's vehicle which had reportedly left the scene before police arrival. Newport police located the suspect vehicle, stopped it, then detained Larry Eugene Johnson, 54, of South Beach, OR. An investigation by the deputies revealed that Larry Johnson grabbed his wife by the throat during an argument, then prevented her from calling police by throwing two phones against a wall inside the residence. Larry Johnson was arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was lodged for Domestic Menacing, Strangulation, Harassment, and Interfering with making a Report. Johnson's bail was set at $55,000.00.
