Summary:
On March 5th, 2009 at about 03:24 a.m. Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies and Toledo Police Officers responded to a report of a single ATV crash near the 300 block of Schlecht Rd, Toledo. Upon arriving on scene, Deputies determined the ATV had went off the roadway over the embankment and came to rest about 35 feet from the roadway.
Upon further investigation, it was determined the passenger, Emily Mae Smith, 20, of Lebanon, Oregon had died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The operator, Nicholas James Estrada, 25, also of Lebanon, Oregon was contacted at the scene and showed signs of impairment. Estrada was transported to and further admitted to Samaritan Pacific Hospital in Newport for medical treatment where he remains at this time.
The Lincoln County Major Crash Team responded to assist. The investigation in this incident is ongoing and more information is expected to be released tomorrow. The Oregon State Police, Lincoln City Police Department and the Newport Police Department all assisted in this investigation.
