On 02/24/09 at approximately 3:00PM Deputy Barry Bruster attempted to make contact with Taylor at a residence on N.E. East Devils Lake Rd near Park Lane on an un-related investigation. Taylor attempted to flee from the deputy in his 2004 White Ford F350 pick up. The pursuit ensued north on East Devils Lake to Hwy 101 where Taylor turned back west bound on Hwy 101. Taylor continued towards Lincoln City then turned south onto West Devils Lake Road. Taylor continued south then turned east onto N.E. Holmes Road and drove around to the boat launch. In the bed of the Ford was a small aluminum boat. Taylor then backed down the boat launch at a high rate of speed. The boat flew out of the back of the pick up when the pickup slammed into Devils Lake and floated out into the lake. The pickup was half way submerged when Taylor exited and began to swim to his boat.
Officers from Lincoln City Police Department as well as personnel from North Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived to assist. A private citizen provided a boat and two Lincoln City Officers went out in the lake and made contact with the Taylor. Taylor was detained and brought back to the Holmes Road Boat Launch. Taylor was transported to North Lincoln Hospital for a medical evaluation. Taylor was soon released from the hospital and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on the following charges;
Attempt to Elude (vehicle); Attempt to Elude (foot); Reckless Driving
He was also charged on un-related charges Total bail is set at $750,000.00
