Summary:
On January 29, 2009 at 7:00 pm, a 51 year old Newport man reported that he had been assaulted at a residence in the 100 block of NE Norman Street east of Newport. The man suffered a fractured jaw and was bleeding from his mouth.
An investigation revealed that Robert Thornburg, 47, of Newport, had punched the man several times in the face during an argument that had started when the man refused Thornburg's request to lie on his behalf during an upcoming, unrelated criminal proceeding.
Deputy Cliff Sites of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office located Thornburg at the residence on NE Norman Street. Thornburg was arrested on charges of ASSAULT II and COERCION & TAMPERING WITH A WITNESS and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail with a total bail of $350,000.
