Summary:
On January 13, 2009 at approximately 11:44am, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Cameron responded to a report of a single vehicle non-injury traffic crash near milepost 7 on Yaquina Bay Road, east of Newport. Upon arrival at the crash scene, Deputy Cameron located a white 1996 Nissan minivan off the roadway, just above the waterline of the river. Deputy Cameron contacted the driver of the vehicle, 44 year old Toledo resident Laura McMahon, and learned she and her male passenger were traveling westbound toward Newport when she swerved to miss a dog running loose in the roadway. McMahon told deputies she lost control of her vehicle when she applied her brakes and subsequently slid off the roadway.
During the investigation, Deputy Cameron observed signs of impairment while speaking with McMahon. Deputy Cameron conducted a DUII investigation. Following the investigation, McMahon was taken into custody for Driving under the influence of intoxicants and transported to the Lincoln County Jail where she refused to take a breath test. McMahon was lodged at the jail for one count of DUII. McMahon received additional citations for Failing to take a breath test as well as driving without a valid license. Her bail was set at $15,000.
