Summary:
On January 10, 2009 at approximately 11:30am, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the Port of Alsea in Walpdort, Oregon on a report of a possible destructive device that was found by a maintenance worker in the port dock parking lot. Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene and found a black cylindrical device, approximately one foot in length and one inch in diameter, laying unattended inside the curbed area of a traffic island in the parking lot. Deputies were unable to determine the contents of the device based on its design. Deputies secured the area and contacted the Oregon State Police Arson/Explosives Section who responded to the location from the Salem area. Team members examined the device and determined it to be a non-explosive device.
Investigation revealed the device was made of rubber garden hose packed with sand and wrapped in black electrical tape. It is unknown how or when the device was placed at the location, however, the investigation is non-criminal in nature and no further action is being taken at this time.
