Incident: Attempted Escape from the Lincoln County Jail
Date Occurred: January 3, 2009
Time Occurred: Approximately 11:30 am
Location: E-Pod of the Lincoln County Jail

Summary:

On December 24, 2008 at approximately 11:30 a.m. Lincoln County Jail staff was informed of a possible escape attempt. Information indicated Jack Baird age 44, of Waldport, had taken steps to escape from the Lincoln County Jail. Deputy Kurtz conducted an investigation which revealed a hole had been made through a cell’s exterior security window by Baird. Baird was found with a contraband metal rod and bolt. The rod was a support bracket to a sink that had been broken off and the bolt was from a chair. A letter authored by Baird was found detailing plans for the attempted escape. Baird was charged with Attempted Escape II, Criminal Mischief I, Criminal Mischief II and Supplying Contraband. Bail was set at $50,000.

Baird was in-custody on four counts of Forgery I and Attempted Aggravated Theft with a bail set in the amount of $100,000.
