Summary:
On 10-13-08, at about 12:45 AM, Deputy Sorby with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryce S Kelley, 29, of Newport on a traffic stop near the intersection of SE 1st St and John Moore Rd in Newport. Kelley provided Deputy Sorby with false information regarding his liability insurance. Deputy Sorby called Kelley’s insurance company and discovered the policy had been terminated. Kelley was taken into custody and transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was cited and released.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn drivers about the consequences for lying about having insurance on a vehicle. Oregon Revised Statute 806.050 makes it a crime (Class B misdemeanor) for a person to knowingly give false information about the person's motor vehicle liability insurance coverage to any police officer who is enforcing motor vehicle laws.
