October 8, 2008 |
| Time Occurred: |
Approximately 10:30 am |
| Location: |
Hwy. 101, Salishan |
Summary:
On October 8, 2008 at approximately 11:30am, a dog that had been wandering the Salishan and Gleneden Beach area for as long as a month, was captured by Animal Services Deputies Kerri Tyler and Cailie Denue, with assistance from Deputy Jeff Hughes.
Deputy Tyler had been attempting to catch the dog for 2 days, as it had been traveling along Hwy 101 between Salishan and Lincoln Beach, causing a very dangerous traffic hazard. The dog was a black and brown male shepherd mix and was very thin. On October 8, 2008, several people reported that the dog had been seen on the beach at the end of the Salishan spit. The dog was seen sitting on the beach howling, and then later chasing wildlife in the area.
A Salishan employee saw the dog in the residential area after it had left the beach and kept it in sight as it traveled back down to and across Hwy 101, twice, and then back towards the spit. Shortly after entering back into the Salishan neighborhood, the dog was cornered By Deputies Hughes, Tyler and Denue, and captured.
The dog was transported to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter and given food, water and a soft bed.
