Summary:
During the early morning hours the Lincoln County Sheriff' Office was dispatched to a single vehicle traffic crash near mile post 5.5 on Yaquina Bay Rd. A black 1998 Saturn four door car was reported to be upside down in the Yaquina Bay. Investigation revealed the vehicle lost control while attempting to negotiate a curve, struck a power pole and came to a rest upside down in the bay. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Brian James Hawk Slaughter, age 19 from Newport, Oregon left the scene after the crash.
With the assistance from Newport Police Department Sr. Deputy Cummings located Mr. Slaughter at his residence. Deputy Cummings conducted a DUII Investigation and arrested Mr. Slaughter for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol &/or Controlled Substance, Reckless Driving, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver (property damage) and Placing Offensive Substance in Waters. The investigation revealed there were four other passengers inside the vehicle when Mr. Slaughter crashed it into the Yaquina Bay. Mr. Slaughter was also charged with four counts of Reckless Endangering Another.
Mr. Slaughter was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail and his bail was set at $60,000.00 Mr. Slaughter also received a citation for Minor in Possession of Alcohol and Driving While Suspended. Mr. Slaughter's vehicle was successfully removed from the Yaquina Bay by Rowley's Towing.
