Summary:
On February 27, 2008 at approximately 12:06pm, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Barry Bruster responded to a report of a male subject lying on Highway 101 in the Yachats area, disrupting traffic. While en route to the location, Deputy Bruster was advised the subject had previously stolen property from the Yachats Village Market. Deputy Bruster arrived to the scene and contacted the subject, 23 year old David Carl Cook of Yakima, Washington. Cook resisted arrest when Deputy Bruster attempted to place him in custody. Deputy Bruster deployed his Taser but Cook was able to flee on foot. Deputy Bruster pursued Cook for several blocks before deploying his Taser a second time as well as pepper spray in an attempt to gain control of him. An Oregon State Trooper arrived on scene to assist Deputy Bruster. Together, they were able to take Cook into custody.
Deputy Bruster and Cook were both treated for minor injuries by Yachats Fire personnel at the scene. Cook was transported and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Assaulting a public safety officer, Resisting arrest, Disorderly conduct and Theft in the third degree. His bail was set at $40,000.00.
