Summary:
On February 19, 2008 at about 9:00pm, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Eric Sorby attempted to stop a 1992 Mazda MX-3 near the Under Sea Gardens on the Bayfront in Newport. When Deputy Sorby activated his overhead lights the vehicle failed to yield and accelerated in an attempt to elude him. Deputy Sorby pursued the vehicle for about 9 miles east on Yaquina Bay road where the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle crashed and the two male occupants fled north on foot into a swamp. Deputy Sorby was able to apprehend the passenger, Adam David Lawrence Arrambide, 24, of Newport. Arrambide had a Felony Warrant for his arrest for Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine. Arrambide was transported and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail. Arrambide's bail for the warrant was set at $100,000.00. Arrambide was arrested on an additional charge of Interfering with a police officer which holds a bail of $7500.00.
Deputy Sorby executed a search warrant on the vehicle and seized several items related to drug possession and sales. The driver of the vehicle escaped at the scene and is still under investigation.
