Summary:
Summary: Sheriff Dotson is pleased to announce that the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with Oregon Coast Therapy Animals (OCTA) to bring a new and well received program to the inmates housed at the Lincoln County Jail. Starting in January of 2008 OCTA members and their companion animals visited the jail twice a month to bring information and animal contact to the inmates. Our friends at OCTA have shown how animals are able to calm people and give them a positive focus. Both of the visits that have taken place thus far have had about 20 inmates eager to hold and pet the animals.
In addition to the therapy that is provided, this also allows the volunteers an opportunity to teach basic animal handling skills to the inmates.
