For Immediate Release NEWS RELEASEDate: December 28, 2007 Public Input Sought on Senate Bill 111 Deadly Force Plan for Lincoln County Public input is being sought for a plan drafted in response to Senate Bill 111 requirements for Oregon counties to develop a plan concerning the use of deadly physical force by police officers. In accordance with the bill, a planning authority, named the Deadly Force Planning Authority (DFPA), has been created for Lincoln County and consists of representatives of law enforcement and justice agencies throughout Lincoln County. The bill also requires that a public hearing be held to allow for citizen input. Two meetings have been scheduled to better facilitate our citizens. The first meeting for public input is Wednesday January 9 at the Taft High School in Lincoln City. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. The second meeting for public input is Wednesday January 16 in the Board of Commissioners meeting room in the courthouse in Newport. This meeting also starts at 6:30 p.m. The draft being created by the Lincoln County DFPA is modeled after the plan created by Lane County. It can be viewed at SB111 Draft E-mail comments by the public can be given at lcsheriff@co.lincoln.or.us . Ultimately a plan will be submitted to the governing body of each jurisdiction within the county that employs a law enforcement agency, as well as the Attorney General.
