The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office released the number of volunteer hours donated on behalf of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for the calendar year 2007. There are currently 135 people who volunteer their time to provide services to the citizens of Lincoln County through their association with the Sheriff’s Office.

There are five volunteer groups within the Sheriff’s Office. The 57 volunteers for the jail donated approximately 900 hours providing counseling for alcohol and other drugs, as well as fellowship and religious services for the inmates.

The animal shelter boasts 26 volunteers who provide support to shelter staff with light cleaning and the socializing of the animals housed in the shelter. This group donated 2,800 hours this year.

Five reserve deputies donated 615 hours this year by providing support to deputies and security at many events such as Newport’s Seafood & Wine Festival, Depoe Bay’s Salmon Bake, Siletz’s Pow Wow, Waldport’s Beachcomber’s Parade, Toledo’s Summer Festival, and July 4th fireworks from Lincoln City to Waldport.

Thirty Sheriff’s Mounted Posse members, donated 6,172 hours of their time providing services to the citizens and visitors of Lincoln County. The posse donates a great deal of their time for other community functions as well.

Seventeen Search & Rescue (SAR) members donated 408 hours to the citizens and visitors of Lincoln County this year. They responded to a number of call-outs to search for lost or overdue citizens.
