Incident: DUII and Attempt to Elude
Date Occurred: September 20, 2007
Time Occurred: Approximately 8:00 PM
Location: Beachside State Park

Summary:

On September 19, 2007 at about 8:00 PM Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Barry Bruster was driving south on Highway 101 near MP 158. A vehicle driven by a juvenile was traveling north at a high rate of speed. The vehicle eluded Deputy Bruster, but was seen traveling south into the Beachside State Park by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Lance Cummings. The vehicle was forced to stop after traveling the wrong way on a one way road in the state park. Deputy Cummings conducted a DUII investigation and subsequently arrested the 17 year old juvenile of Yachats, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was transported to the Lincoln County Juvenile Detention Center where he was lodged. His BAC was .07%. He was also arrested for felony attempt to elude, minor in possession of alcohol, open container, reckless endangering x2, and reckless driving.

The vehicle was impounded and towed.

Shay Whiteman, age 18 of Yachats, a passenger in the vehicle, was also cited for MIP.
