Inmates Clean the Beach
On September 15, 2007 the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office, in conjunction with the local Oregon SOLV Project, participated in the local beach clean up at Gleneden Beach State Park. Members of the Sheriffs Office and four inmates from the Jail participated in the event. Participation in this event is one of several efforts by the Sheriffs Office to allow inmates to “give back to the community”.
Sheriff’s deputies and inmates covered more than one mile of beach. The litter collected consisted of mostly small items. The beach was surprisingly clean.
Members from the Sheriffs Office who participated in the event were Corporal Steve Frey, Sgt. Barbara Perry, and Sheriff Dennis Dotson. Sgt. Perry’s husband, John, also participated.
The inmates who participated were Kevin Staggs, Mary Martin, Angela Ooten, and Melissa Beck. All four inmates were selected based upon their good behavior while serving their sentences in the jail. All four inmates were very enthusiastic and expressed their appreciation in having the opportunity to assist in cleaning the beach.
