Summary:
On September 14, 2007 at approximately 2:33pm, Lincoln County Sheriff's Sergeant Adam Shanks responded to a domestic disturbance at 721 SE John Nye Road, east of Newport. Sergeant Shanks contacted an adult female at the location who had been physically injured by her boyfriend during an altercation. Investigation revealed 43 year old Kevin Scott Clausen of Newport, Oregon had returned to the couple's motor home intoxicated at which time he physically assaulted his girlfriend. Clausen reportedly interfered with the female's attempt to call 911 before fleeing the scene into a nearby wooded area prior to police arrival.
Sergeant Shanks, with the assistance of Forest Deputy Gary Davey and Lieutenant Curtis Landers deployed a thermal imaging unit recently purchased with grant monies secured by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. The thermal imaging unit assisted the deputies with successfully locating Clausen who was attempting to conceal himself in a heavily wooded area. Clausen was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on one count of Domestic Assault in the fourth degree and Interfering with making a 911 report. Clausen also had a warrant issued for his arrest out of the Lincoln County Circuit Court for Fail to appear on an unrelated charge. Clausen's bail was set at $140,004.00.
