Summary:

At about 1041 pm, 12 August 2007, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 4750 Yachats River Road, Yachats on an assault complaint. James Michael King, 38 years old of Yachats, reported that three subjects damaged the travel trailer he was living in, entered his trailer and assaulted him. King reportedly attempted to defend himself and struck two of his assailants with a knife. King was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport where he was treated for injuries to his head and body. While King was being transported by ambulance to the hospital, two male subjects identified as Tyler Thomas Hobbs, 21 years old of Anacortes, Washington, and Griffin Rhys Hall, 23 years old of Tracy, California entered the hospital with knife wounds to the hand (Hobbs) and abdomen (Hall).

Sheriff’s Office Detectives were called to assist in the investigation and a partial activation of the Lincoln County Major Crime Team was requested.

Investigation revealed Hobbs, Hall, and two other subjects identified as Deven Taylor Hall, 20 years old of Anacortes, Washington, and Tyson Mavar, 20 years old of Anacortes, Washington went to King’s trailer to force King to move his trailer off the property. Subjects smashed out several windows to the trailer, and one subject, armed with an SKS assault rifle, poked holes through the wall of the trailer and fired one shot through the trailer door. Three of the subjects then entered the trailer and assaulted King with their fists and the butt of the assault rifle. King retrieved a knife and fought back, stabbing one of the subjects in the abdomen and cutting another’s hand.

Hobbs was treated and released at the hospital, taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Assault II, Assault III, Burglary I, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Criminal Mischief II, Menacing, Coercion, and Conspiracy.

Deven Hall was later arrested and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Assault III, Assault IV, Burglary I, Criminal Mischief II, Menacing, Coercion, and Conspiracy.

Tyson Mavar was interviewed and released, pending review of possible criminal charges by the District Attorney’s Office.

Griffin Hall was transported to OHSU medical center in Portland, Oregon, by air ambulance for treatment of stab injuries to his abdomen. Charges are pending.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by members of the Newport Police Department, Lincoln City Police Department, and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.

Investigation continues.
