Summary:
On July 19, 2007 at about 7:40 PM Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies and the Seal Rock Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle roll over traffic crash at milepost 2 on the North Bayview Rd. just north of Waldport. Passengers of the crashed vehicle suffered life threatening injuries and the Lincoln County Multi-Agency Crash Team (MACT) was activated. MACT members from the Newport Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and the Oregon State Police responded and conducted an investigation.
The initial MACT investigation revealed that Colin Michael Grady, age 20 of Waldport, was operating a white Toyota 4Runner westbound on North Bayview Rd. and failed to negotiate a curve at milepost 2. The 4Runner rolled over in the roadway and came to rest in the driveway of a residence. Grady and his passengers, Rodney Olsen, age 28 of Waldport, and Kelly Andrews, age 24 of Cottage Grove, were transported to Newport Pacific Communities Hospital via ambulance. Rodney Olsen died of injuries sustained in the traffic crash. Andrews was life-flighted to Emanuel Hospital in Portland where he is listed in critical condition. Grady exhibited signs of intoxication and it was determined that alcohol and controlled substances were factors in the crash. After receiving medical care, Grady was taken into custody at the hospital and was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree, Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, two counts of Assault in the Third Degree, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, and two counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person. Grady's bail was set at $100,000. Grady posted bail and was released from jail today.
Additional information regarding this investigation should be directed to the Lincoln County District Attorney's Office at (541) 265-4145.
