Sheriff's Office Strategic Plan

In 2005, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began efforts to create a strategic plan. Some professional assistance was obtained and two surveys were conducted. The first survey in September 2005 asked a sampling of Lincoln County citizens a series of questions to determine performance satisfaction of their Sheriff’s Office, concerns about crime, communications from their Sheriff’s Office and other areas of interest.

A second survey was conducted of all members of the Sheriff’s Office. The goal was to learn about employee job satisfaction, internal communication, understanding the mission of the Sheriff’s Office, opportunities for participation in the decisions made within the Sheriff’s Office and more. Beginning in April 2006, community meetings hosted by the Sheriff’s Office were held in various communities around the county and to date, seven such meetings have been hosted in six different communities. Additional community meetings featuring the Sheriff’s Office have been held during this time as well.

The information collected from both surveys and from citizens attending town hall meetings and in other forums with Sheriff Dotson since late 2003, was collated and reviewed. Two Line Staff Academies and monthly meetings with the Sheriff and his leadership team over nine months resulted in the creation of a comprehensive strategic plan.

Sheriff Dotson stated, “This strategic plan does not just belong to the Sheriff’s Office, this plan is the citizen’s plan for their Sheriff’s Office for many years to come.” Sheriff Dotson described the plan as a living document that will adapt to the public safety needs of Lincoln County’s citizens.

“This plan will answer anyone’s question about why their Sheriff’s Office is providing any particular service, seeking any resources, and how we will utilize the resources provided to us by our citizens through their valuable tax dollars”, said Sheriff Dotson. The Sheriff described the strategic plan as a road map to where the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is headed, how it intends to get there, and performance measurements to determine results and ultimately success.
