Summary:
On April 28, 2007 at approximately 11:04pm, Lincoln County Sheriff's Sergeant Adam Shanks was patrolling on US Highway 101 in the Agate Beach area when he observed a blue Ford Mustang licensed out of California traveling southbound in front of him with a broken rear tail light. Sergeant Shanks conducted a traffic stop. While contacting the two occupants inside the vehicle, Sergeant Shanks was notified by his dispatch center that the vehicle was listed as stolen out of Newport, Oregon.
Deputy Eric Gulbranson and officers from the Newport Police Department responded to the scene to assist. A "high-risk" vehicle stop was conducted and both occupants were taken into custody without incident. Sergeant Shanks learned the owner of the vehicle reported it stolen to the Newport Police Department earlier this date, and no suspects were identified at the time of the report.
The driver, identified as 27 year old Zachary L. Tyler of Newport, Oregon, was arrested for Possession of a stolen vehicle. Tyler was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on a $25,000.00 bail. The passenger, identified as 22 year old Joshua C. Reeves of Corvallis, Oregon, was arrested on four outstanding Lincoln County probation violation warrants. Reeves was also lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on a $175,000.00 bail.
