Summary:
On January 20, 2007, at 1:40 AM, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Deputy Boys conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford SUV for driving without headlights on Highway 101 near Lane St., Depoe Bay. Deputy Boys contacted the driver, Valente Carrasco-Montiel, 30, of Gresham, who handed him an Oregon identification card. Shortly after this contact, Carrasco-Montiel pulled away from the stop location and fled in his vehicle north bound on Highway 101. Carrasco-Montiel's vehicle reached speeds near 70 miles per hour and still appeared to be traveling with no headlights. Deputy Boys pursued the vehicle. Carrasco-Montiel went approximately one mile north on highway 101 when he lost control of his vehicle and went east off the roadway crashing into the trees and brush along the shoulder.
Deputy Boys located Carrasco-Montiel outside the vehicle and took him into custody without further incident for DUII, Reckless driving and Attempt to elude. Carrasco-Montiel suffered only minor injuries from the crash. A warrants check revealed that Carrasco-Montiel had three outstanding warrants from Multnomah County.
Carrasco-Montiel was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he refused the breath test. Carrasco-Montiel was lodged at the jail on charges stemming from the pursuit with his bail set $40,000. In addition, he is being held on outstanding warrants from Multnomah County for Assault III and Misuse of an identification card bail set at $7,500, Abscond from parole with no bail and Probation violation with bail set at $10,000.
