Summary:
On December 28, 2006 at approximately 8:30pm, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy John Beckwith conducted a traffic stop on a white 2006 Toyota Corolla passenger car on Highway 101 near milepost 122 for suspicion of switched plates. During a records check, it was determined the license plates on the vehicle returned to a different vehicle. During the stop, Deputy Beckwith learned the vehicle was stolen out of the Salem area.
Deputy Beckwith, with the assistance of the Oregon State Police and Lincoln City Police Department, detained all six occupants that were traveling in the vehicle. One of the occupants was determined to be a missing juvenile from the Mt. Angel area and was taken into protective custody. The driver of the vehicle, James Lloyd Vandyke, age 32 of Dallas, Oregon, was taken into custody as well. The other four occupants were released at the scene.
Vandyke was transported to the Lincoln County Jail and lodged for Unauthorized use of a vehicle and Giving false information to a police officer. His bail was set at $25,000. The juvenile was transported to the Lincoln County Juvenile Shelter and released. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and subsequently responded to the scene to retrieve the vehicle.
