Summary:
On December 21, 2006 at about 2:08 AM Newport Port Security reported that a subject, later identified as John Zimmerman, age 32 of Warrington, Oregon, trespassed on the F/V Chelsea and then tried to assault the vessel owner when told to leave. Lincoln County Sheriff Deputies John Beckwith and Barry Bruster responded to the scene.
Investigation revealed Zimmerman boarded the wrong fishing vessel and fell asleep in a bunk. When the vessel owner requested Zimmerman to leave the boat, Zimmerman urinated on the galley floor. The vessel owner grabbed Zimmerman's arm and forced him out of the galley toward the deck of the boat. Zimmerman attempted to strike the vessel owner with a flashlight. Zimmerman was forced off the boat by the vessel owner.
Zimmerman was contacted by deputies on the F/V Nicole. Zimmerman was arrested for Menacing and Criminal Trespass in the 2nd Degree. He was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was lodged on a $10,000 bail.
