Summary:
Sergeant Mark Meister of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to assist Oregon State Police Trooper Plummer who was out with a possible intoxicated driver on a traffic stop on Highway 20 near milepost 5. As Sergeant Meister pulled up to assist Trooper Plummer a white Dodge sedan operated by Jerin Blakeley, age 16 of Newport, ran into the back of the maroon Volvo sedan he was following eastbound. Blakeley had 3 juvenile passengers and an eighteen year old passenger who was the owner of the vehicle he crashed. Jerin had an Instructional Permit. Jerin was issued a citation for Following Too Close and for No Operators License. Instructional Permits require a valid licensed driver 21 years of age or older to be in the vehicle while the driver with the Instructional Permit is driving.
No one was injured in the collision, but both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Trooper Plummer and Toledo Police Department Officer Denis Bosque assisted with the crash investigation.
