Summary:
On November 27th, 2006 at about 9:32am, Deputy Chris Miller was driving south on Hwy 101 near mile post 153, south of Seal Rock, Oregon when he observed a black car driving north at 73 miles per hour. Deputy Miller stopped the car for the speeding and contacted the driver, Dawn L. Spielman, 38 of Waldport.
Spielman did not have proof of insurance, but told Deputy Miller that she has insurance coverage. Deputy Miller contacted the insurance company and discovered that Spielman did not have insurance. Deputy Miller arrested Spielman for giving false information to police regarding liability insurance. Spielman's car was impounded and she was transported to the Lincoln County Jail where she received citations for Driving Uninsured and Exceeding the Posted Speed Limit. Spielman was booked and released for the crime of False Information to Police Regarding Liability Insurance.
Oregon Revised Statute 806.055 makes it a crime (Class B Misdemeanor) to knowingly give false information about the person's motor vehicle liability insurance coverage to any police officer who is enforcing motor vehicle laws. Bail for a Class B Misdemeanor is $5000.
