Summary:
At about 0930hrs the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol received an agency assist request from Lincoln City Police regarding a capsized boat in Devils Lake. Sheriff's marine deputies responded and learned that one person was rescued and one person was still missing. The two men were fishing in an eight foot aluminum boat when it started taking on water. The boat capsized and the two men were forced into the water with no life jackets. The water temperature was around 45 degrees. Nathan Taylor of Denton, Texas went under water despite attempts of the other boater to save him. The rescued victim was helped by a citizen who grabbed a nearby canoe that was not equipped with paddles. The citizen instead located a broom and used it as a paddle to get to the men struggling in the water.
North Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and launched their jet skis and retrieved the male who was hanging onto the canoe operated by the citizen. The US Coast Guard, North Lincoln Fire and Rescue, and Lincoln County Sheriffs Office Marine Patrol searched the water and located the capsized boat. Search of the immediate area around the boat did not turn up the missing person. The search will resume tomorrow to locate Nathan Taylor.
