The Sheriff’s Office hosted two community meetings within the past two weeks. One in Depoe Bay on October 10 and another in Yachats on October 17. Both meetings were well attended. This is the second series of community meetings Sheriff Dotson pledged to host every six months around the county. The previous series of meetings was held in April 2006.

A 12-minute video about our Sheriff’s Office opened both meetings. The video included information and comments from Lincoln County citizens about their feelings of their Sheriff’s Office and the service they receive. There were a number of Sheriff’s Office employees featured in the video describing how they feel about the services they provide.

Sheriff Dotson was assisted by Lieutenants Dave Carey, Jamie Russell, and Curtis Landers. Information shared with those in attendance included a recap from the April meetings of “What the Sheriff’s Office said it would do”, and “What the Sheriff’s Office did”.

Half of the 90-minute meetings were dedicated to hearing comments from the citizens. Sheriff Dotson said, “This is the most important segment of these meetings.” “We get a chance to hear from our customers about what is important to them in the area of public safety.”

Sheriff Dotson told the audience that their comments help create the next list of “What the Sheriff’s Office is going to do.” The results of these efforts will be reported in the April 2007 series of community meetings.

Sheriff Dotson said, “One of the goals of these meetings is to receive ideas from our customers which will become the basis of the Sheriff’s Office Strategic Plan.” “We are very pleased with the public’s response to our community meetings.”

The third and last meeting in this series begins at 6:30 p.m. on October 24 at Toledo City Hall. Citizens from around the county are invited to attend.
